Above is a postcard image of the historic Forsyth County Courthouse built in 1895/1897. The style is Romanesque Revival. This building was not demolished. A renovation/alteration in 1926/1927 enlarged the building, resulting in a different façade. The new façade created the limestone clad, Beaux-Arts style building that exists today and is shown below. The turrets and bell tower were removed, but the 1897 building rests within the walls of the current building. Between 1959 and 1960, additions were built onto the front and rear. The building has been renovated into apartments and is located at 50 West Fourth in Winston Salem. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. In front of it for decades was the Confederate Soldiers Monument, which was removed in 2019.
